The Idea

"You've never played what he's is going for." ~Hellbyte Studios Director
"Are you the D&D guy?" ~Some guy

An isometric role-playing game with a focus on individual character progression and player choice in gameplay systems. The game is a blend of elements from games such as Octopath Traveler, Stardew Valley and Path of Exile.

What's Here Now?

This alpha is not complete. It is a very bare bones 5-minute slice to help give a clearer idea of what the game could look like in the future.

This build includes early architecture for the following features:

  • Recruiting NPCs
  • Osu Based Skill Checks
  • NPC Behaviours and Needs
  • Conditions that need to be monitored
  • Skill Trees
  • Character Creation
  • World Building

The Heart of the Project

Preparation and Planning

The game has an emphasis on actually planning out and preparing for difficult scenarios and encounters that might appear. The only risk to the party is not the possibility of dying in combat, but environmental factors and random encounters, diseases, temperatures, traps, or pitfalls can also do the characters in.

Permadeath and Continuance

When a playable character dies, they stay dead unless the party resurrects them. Player saves are locked off when a character dies, the saves can be restored when an option to resurrect them arises. If all the playable characters die, the player can make new characters continue to live in the generated world without starting over.

Consequences

The game has a system called “The Journal” that keeps track of most interactions the party makes. Whenever an interaction occurs, the journal prompts new information and possible hooks. The journal continues to track these interactions and shapes the consequences based on previous choices. Only talking to hermits grants poor communication with royalty. Only eating one type of food leads to sickness and physical ailments.
